What does HVAC stand for?
HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
What is an HVAC system?
HVAC is an acronym that covers virtually all of your home or business’ air quality and climate control needs. This includes the furnace, air conditioner, filtering, air exchange, vents, and duct work. In most standard HVAC systems, all the elements are connected and work together to heat or cool your space.
How long do furnaces last?
When properly maintained, a good quality furnace can last a long time. Gas furnaces typically need to be replaced after 15-20 years, and electric ones can last as long as 20-30 years.
That’s one of the reasons why upgrading to a high efficiency furnace can be such a great investment once you calculate the savings over the lifetime of the unit.
What is central air conditioning?
If you don’t have any air conditioning, or have just been relying on portable units, central air conditioning is a great way to beat the heat.
Central air conditioning gets tied into your main ventilation system so the same vents that heat your home in the winter will cool it during the hot summer months.
What is the difference between an electric and a gas furnace?
An electric furnace only uses electricity to heat your home. An electric furnace can be installed in most Manitoba homes, but some electrical work may be required depending on your home’s wiring.
A gas furnace, however, heats your home via natural gas. You’ll need a natural gas line installed. Natural gas furnaces also require electricity to work, so you won’t be able to use them without power.

It depends on how much work is being done. Our team will coordinate with the homeowner or business to ensure every step of your HVAC install goes smoothly.

Can I use the Manitoba Hydro furnace rebate with Commercial Comfort's services?
The Manitoba Hydro Furnace Rebate program has ended. They’re now offered through Efficiency MB, check out their website for more information.
How much does a new furnace cost
Furnace prices vary depending on the model, size, and whether it’s natural gas or electric. To help you find the best furnace and installation options for your space and budget, contact us to get a quote.
What is the cost for central air conditioning installation
If a new air conditioning unit can be tied into your existing ventilation system then your cost for central air conditioning will include the price of your unit and the cost of installation.
Central air conditioning can also be added to a new build or retrofitted into an existing space. The price varies, so contact us for a detailed quote for air conditioning installation.
How much does an HVAC system cost
A lot of factors go into HVAC system pricing. Some of these include: The size of the building, the units you need installed (eg. furnace, AC, air purification), whether there is an existing system in place, and any other variables that will affect the installation.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance
What to do if your furnace stopped working
Furnace not working? It doesn’t take long for the temperature to drop during the winter, so when your furnace stops working it’s a real emergency.
Furnace Troubleshooting
- Confirm the thermostat is set correctly and that heat hasn’t been switched off.
- Check that the breaker hasn’t tripped or blown.
- Ensure that if there’s a power switch on the furnace that it hasn’t been accidentally turned off.
- For a gas furnace, check that the pilot light is lit and the gas valve is open.
- If your furnace is working but there’s a rattling sound, make sure the cover is installed securely.

How often should you change your furnace filters
The general rule for filters is to replace them every three months in most home ventilation systems.
You also should consider your specific usage, too. During months where you use heating or cooling more often, like the summer or winter, you will want to change filters more frequently than the spring and fall.
Pets, allergies, and other special considerations should also be taken into account.
